I hope you'll join me for my new course, “Rooted I hope you'll join me for my new course, “Rooted: A Field Guide to Place, Home, & Belonging.” ::
::
It's designed to deepen your connection to the land right outside your door while weaving magical practices into your experience of home. Whether you live in an urban, suburban, or rural area, sacred land is under your feet. Whether you shelter in a house, yurt, or apartment — you can create a sanctuary of everyday magic. ::
::
I created this course because I wanted to “court” the land right where I live, instead of (or maybe in addition to) longing for the land I left behind when I moved a couple of years ago.::
::
On the surface, this course is about connecting with nature outside your door and having fun inside with hearthcrafting and folk magic. ::
::
But on a deeper level, it’s about living in tune with the rhythm of the seasons, cultivating a reciprocal relationship with the sacred ground of your life, and reflecting on the meaning of home and belonging. ::
::
We'll nest into our homes, bond with the land outside our doors, and activate the magical threshold between the two.::
::
We start Sunday January 17th (although there is plenty for you to do as soon as you register)! Link in profile. #rooted #winter #phenology #naturejournal #earthmedicine #gaiantarot #naturespirituality
I woke up grumpy this New Year’s Day but a Wild I woke up grumpy this New Year’s Day but a Wild Wander swept away all the cobwebs. Cottonwoods and moss and storm clouds, oh my! And a hummingbird in the wild rose bushes too quick to capture anywhere but in the smile on my face. #naturejournal #wildwander #earthmedicine
Every New Year we shut the door on the past and we Every New Year we shut the door on the past and welcome the future, all the while standing on the threshold between the two. I created a new spread this year, with the transition from 2020 to 2021 in mind. ::
::
1. What do I want to leave behind in 2020? (Go through your tarot deck face up, and pull out 3 cards that express the things you want to leave behind. Write down some notes on what the images on those cards mean to you.) ::
::
2. What do I want to keep from 2020 and take with me into 2021? (Do the same. Go through your deck face up, and pull out 3 cards that express the things you want to keep. Write down some notes on what the images on those cards mean to you.)::
::
3. How can I best take care of myself in 2021? (Shuffle your deck and pull one card at random.)::
::
4. How can I serve my community in 2021? (Shuffle your deck and pull one card at random.)::
::
5. What ancestor, guide, or Holy Helper will be my companion in 2021? (Shuffle your deck and pull a card at random, but keep turning cards over until you turn up a Major Arcana card or a Court / People card. Alternately, you could choose to use your Tarot Year Card as your Companion card for 2021.) ::
::
Here’s my own reading. I used the Future Ancestor Tarot by @lexalunastudio. I bought this deck for myself for Solstice on the recommendation of @tarotandmovewithjennifer (Chief Tarot Deck Enabler!) and I am loving its simplicity and its depth. ::
::
1. What do I want to leave behind in 2020?
 ::
8 of Needles – physical isolation
 ::
Hermit – too much solitude ::

9 of Needles – fear and despair ::
::
2. What do I want to keep from 2020 and take with me into 2021? ::
2 of Seeds – slow pace ::

Alchemist (Magician) – sparkling creative work ::

Listener of Cups – (virtual) circles of depth and heart

I designed this spread in 2018 for those who, like I designed this spread in 2018 for those who, like me, were having a hard time with the onset of winter. Darkness comes early and stays late as we approach the shortest day of the year on Winter Solstice. For many of us living in northern latitudes, winter can bring on depression, grief, and memories of all we have lost in a “normal” year. This year of 2020, the uncertainty, grief, and loss is multiplied on a massive collective scale. ::
::
And yet the darkness has gifts for us as well … of dreaming, of rest, and of honoring our sorrow. ::
::
Come, toss the cards with me, and listen to the whispers of wisdom in your heart. ::
::
1. Darkness / Dismemberment / Brokenness. ::
What have you lost? What are you grieving? What is broken within you? (If you get a positive card in this position, you might want to read its shadow side or reversed meaning.) ::
::
2. Promise / Rebirth of the Sun / Renewal. ::
What is the promise of renewal that will come with the dawn of Winter Solstice? ::
::
3. Integration of Dark and Light. ::
How do the darkness and the dawn intertwine? What wisdom do they create together? ::
::
4. Gift of the Darkness / Remember. ::
What is the gift of the broken time, hidden in the darkness? What longs to be re-membered and restored? ::
::
Thank you @ohnurie for reminding me of this spread. ::
Thank you @candalep for sending me a sequined Guad Thank you @candalep for sending me a sequined Guadalupe for the top of my Yule tree. I love her. #grateful #friendsinfarawayplaces #guadalupe #shewhohearsthecriesoftheworld
